    *Random ranr incoming*

Man I really hate ongoing series, because I want to get a review out but it would be unfair to judge it as it is. But I ve never wanted to get a review out as much as for GUILTY CROWN. This series blows me away. Now im not saying its perfect but its pretty high up on the list of most promising anime.

It can be compared to Code Geass best, (Same writer) its setting is similar in some ways it takes place in Japan 10 years after a devastating virus hits Japan the the equivalent of the UN must step in, but becomes a little corrupt. But what I love most about this series is its main character Shu Ouma.

Who at first glance appears to be a very standard main character, but has one quality that most characters don't get until later, he genuinely wants to do something about the sorry state Japan is in which is more you than you can say about most mecha characters,*Stare disappointingly at Shinji Ikari*.

So that's about it ........for now

Mm... How about Tumblr or PMs or something along those lines? :P
Well , I guess we'd have to thoroughly discuss how we're going to do this though.

Personally , I'm not sure whether I should add in points from the original series ( Fate/Stay Night ) - it'll probably end up turning the review into an essay or something.

Still , guess we can have 3 reviewers working on the review of Fate/Zero.
fallenkaze , CyanideBlizzard and... me - still , how do we share information and what not? I still don't really get how the collab review thing works.

Well, if it helps I can elaborate upon what Distortion and myself did. I actually shared the series with him, and we both communicated over skype throughout the series with our thoughts on the current progress and discussed other things amongst the series. We used skype since it's easier for both of us, but really anything could be used, including PMs on MT.

After that, what we did was sort of just started writing the review. It worked out rather well, because both of us were able to cover each section we needed while adding our own diversity to it as well. We pretty much sent a file back and forth of what we worked on, but Google Documents also works for something like that.

Personally, I think it's about what works best for those involved.

Not too sure whether the second season would cover the Light Novel though.
If my memory didn't fail me , we've only covered 1/3 of the War in the first Season.
There are still many scenarios which isn't covered yet.

Still , guess we can have 3 reviewers working on the review of Fate/Zero.
fallenkaze , CyanideBlizzard and... me - still , how do we share information and what not? I still don't really get how the collab review thing works.

I'm thinking about reviewing Gundam Unicorn when it's done as well.... guess I'd have to wait till mid-year to review anything at all.

  5. fallenkaze 5d 0h ago

Yessss! Collab reviews now exist, I can now die happily, or maybe not yet...too many anime left unfinished like Fate/Zero, or Guilty Crown(The second coming of Code Geass).

Oh Z I' d be interested in a Fate/Zero review once its done airing.

  6. aozoraskies 5d 2h ago

Go for it, gaiz. *____* shiny new collab feature, will make reviewing even more fun and kewl~

Really though, some things come best in pairs (like peanut butter and jelly, or Masters and Servants, or Doctors and Companions - okay stopping-) and I can only imagine how fun it will be to watch something together with your reviewing pal, swap thoughts and write it together. :DDD I would love that, and seeing people have more fun in the Review Section.

So... +1 vote from Aozora = +1000 good idea points //shottt

Z : Oooh, Fate/Zero you say? Well, perhaps when the second half of the show comes out I might have to see how much time I have then!

Snicker : You thought stealer! I was actually thinking of proposing the idea to Sheqel to see how hard it would be to implement such a feature. While the review section doesn't garnish much attention, I can't help but to think that adding such a feature might breed more activity. I'll throw a suggestion his way and see what he thinks.

For now though, I'd recommend to perhaps structure the review in a similar manner that myself and Distortion did, or whatever would work best for you. Maybe with this, we can expand the review section!

/o/ Definitely looking forward to reading this collab review when I get back from class tonight. Speaking of which, do you think it might be possible to get a formal collab option for reviews like there is for wallpapers? You've written one Cy, my sis and I would like to write some, Kaze has mentioned the idea of a collab in the past, and now Z's mentioned it as well(sorry Z, but I don't keep up with the Fate stuff so I'm no help), so it seems like the function might get decent use. I don't know if that would be a lot of work for Sheq coding wise, but I'm going to go ahead and throw the idea out there. :)

    CO-CO-CO-COLLABORATIVE REVIEW!
    *Mind explodes*

Anyways , is anyone interested in reviewing Fate/Zero with me? :P

Well , I just read through the review and... for one , I love the double act and you guys had just made it look like one of the most horrid Anime which had ever existed - and according to the review itself , I would agree.
The originals have the tendency to be better than the Anime adaptations so I'm guessing the Light Novel would be at least somewhat better... Hopefully.
I wish to believe that it's the Anime industry which is screwing things up , not the one whom comes up with the ideas =.=

After weeks of writing, viewing and probably the longest I have ever spent on a review, I bring you the first collaborative review on MT.

Warning : It may be a bit lengthy, but I look forward to any advice and suggestions that can be offered!

In other news, Playstation Vita makes it way to the US in a month!

    fallenkaze - that's what I thought.
But they said their cool with Yuri - apparently , Yaoi have a stronger impact on men than Yuri does for women :X
But meh , I think their at least somewhat disturbed by it...
.... The mind of women , one of the greatest mysteries of our planet D:

Anyways , Star Driver and Gundam Age can't be the only new one.
    There are...
    Aquarion Evol ( Jan )
Rinne no Lagrange ( Jan )
Gundam Unicorn OVA 5 ( Sometime this year... )
    Gundam SEED Remastered ( .... *cough* )

Not too sure what Rinne no Lagrange is about and I don't think I can explain Aquarion :P
But... Gundam Unicorn's fifth OVA... *hands starts shaking*

Also , who knows when Code Geass : Ruined Land of Akito would come out?
I kinda doubt they would just leave Macross Frontier hanging there either.

Well , either way , my target date is April - when Fate/Zero comes out.
Heck , they just had to stop at the part when Caster is about to pull off his awesome move :X

  12. fallenkaze 1wk 0d ago

Yaoi is a scary thing indeed, but im sure women feel the same way about yuri.

But why must yaoi be in Star Driver the only new mecha show, well besides Gundam AGE but I don't talk about Gundam AGE unless the characters go 10 years into the future where they have a reasonable art style and Gundams that aren't obviously just there for the new toy line.

  13. z827 1wk 1d ago

I usually don't review Anime longer than 100 episodes... Your bound to have forgotten something amongst all the fillers and what not :X

As for Yaoi... Meh , just review it in the sense that it is a girl watching it. Reviewing a Yaoi Anime from a male's perspective isn't that great of an idea - better still , don't do it at all :P
I personally know someone who loves it so... ehh... yeah , I usually avoid talking about Anime when I'm with her.
Doesn't help when I have another lot of online friends whom loves it and post Yaoi pics every few weeks or so. I got so sick that I started posting Ecchi , Yuri and images of women with big bewbies just to make them stop =.=

  14. fallenkaze 1wk 1d ago

Well I've finished my 203 episode series, Katekyo Hitman REBORN, so maybe I could start my review it. I also finished with Star Driver.....yeah too much fanservice for girls.....scarred for life by those yaoi fantasies......*shivers* oh and Usagi Drop to top off my extremely varied shows list.

  15. z827 1wk 6d ago

Admittedly , some of the shows caught my eye - Gyo , Senhime ( Though I'm guessing that this would probably end up as another cliched crap. Hope it's comedy though ) , Another Anime ( Weird name , weird atmosphere ) , Carnival Phantasm ( As a Type-Moon fan - I CAN NOT miss this ) , Scryed Alteration , Steins Gate's Special Ep , ToHeart2 ( Since it's based off a VN , I'm naturally drawn to it :X ) , Holy Knight , Eiyuu Densetsu and Shakugan no Shana.

Though I'm guessing that I would probably end up ditching 2/3 of the list.
I'm getting the feeling that Another and Gyo would be good though.
Though naturally , I'd still be catching up with Shakugan no Shana , Fate/Zero and Carnival Phantasm >:D

Anyways , it's about high time we get a remake for Neon Genesis Evangelion or something. Even Aquarion is getting a new Anime =.=

  16. SnickerdoodleNinja Elite Member 1wk 6d ago

Hmm, I'm hoping that xxxholic season 2 and Dream Eater Merry will be brought over to the US so that I can watch them. I'm also really looking forward to the conclusion of Shakugan no Shana, whose last season started airing this last October. While it's not an anime or manga, I'm also really hoping this new Suikoden game gets brought to the US this year. But really, all anime pales in comparison to my excitement over the upcoming Batman movie... Anyways, how about you guys?

And Cy, I'll be looking forward to this collaborative review! /o/

  17. CyanideBlizzard Moderator 1wk 6d ago

Nothing so far has truly stood out to me in terms of releases. I'm looking forward to the second half of Fate/Zero, and that's really the only thing that's got me excited so far.

However, I am excited because I'm hoping I can get the collaborative review I've mentioned in passing for months now finally started and perhaps finished within the next week or so.

What about you, Kaze, and everyone else on MT-reviews?

  18. fallenkaze 1wk 6d ago

So anyone excited about any anime or manga coming out this year?

  19. z827 3wk 3d ago

That's why I mentioned "experimental" titles like "Strikeforce" or "Dissidia"

Their branched out of the MAIN series with a different gameplay.

Parasite Eve ( RPG ) has turned into an action shooter so you could imagine how pissed off the older audiences are.
But if the change is within that genre's field - any beneficial changes is acceptable.
Well , unless it's an experimental release like DW Strikeforce or Dissidia anyways.

Ok, just to make sure I'm understanding this correctly: in some of these cases it's not so much that they're really bad games as it is that they are a really bad *insert series name* game. Kind of like SH: Shattered Memories wasn't a terrible game, it was just a terrible SH game because it left the defining features of the series?

I mean, I understand that some of the time the games just aren't good, but I'm getting the impression that some of these wouldn't be frowned upon nearly so much if they just had a different title and didn't try to be part of a particular series.

*crawls back into her hole of Eternal Sonata ps3 version guilty pleasureness*

EDIT: Oh wow, another Suikoden game is coming out for the PSP in Japan this February! ;_; Tears of joy, because I still love that series-but it'd better come out in the US later or there will be an angry ninja.

I'm not saying everything sucks, I'm just saying that they fell behind western developers. It was always expected that the west would be better with FPS and sports games but it was never expected that they would take over the RPG market too. Sure, Persona/SMT games are still great and Tales is pretty hit and miss but when you compare it to only a generation ago, you can definitely see that it may not just be the glory days that are over.

  22. z827 3wk 3d ago

JRPGs were like bread and butter to me so - heck - it's like telling me to do the Twelve Labours of Hercules or something should the genre die off.

Rather than getting cocky - the good developers just aren't around anymore. Most of them retired or moved out of their main companies and stuff like that.
.... Or even - the good ones simply aren't getting localized.

Some of the Tales games are still in Japanese , there isn't much Persona as to date ( Well , they ARE releasing a bunch of fighters based on the Persona series though ) , Final Fantasy can bite the dust 'bout now and Disgaea... is actually still good.

Their gaming market isn't "going to be limited to their country" - it ALREADY IS limited to their country.
There are a butt load of games which aren't even in the Western Markets or even the rest of Asia.

Either way , your lumping all the companies into a stack.
Final Fantasy may be screwing up but Shin Megami Tensei and Tales are still rollin' good.

  23. shoujoboy 3wk 3d ago

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm not heartbroken by the loss of the JRPG. I used to love them and it was pretty much the only thing I ever played but they failed to evolve. I know there's a saying of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but it seems that they instead adopted the saying "eh, it'll do". It didn't evolve. Graphics got prettier but the gameplay remained stale, the stories too samey and none of them had a distinct personality. Maybe it's because I evolved as a gamer myself to require more than level grinding and saving the world again and again or maybe they just stopped trying. I lean more toward the latter.

I think the Japanese essentially got cocky. They never thought the West would become a powerhouse and become innovators in the industry they pioneered. They dismissed Microsoft when they got into the game and are regretting it now. They thought their big names like Final Fantasy would always pull them through only to see their sales plummet.

Adapt or perish. They need to learn this soon or their market will be limited to only their little island over there. I miss the days when I could enjoy a good JRPG but I am not at all going to cry over it. I have so many games I could/want to play that I'm in no need of another androgynous hero.

  24. z827 3wk 4d ago

Their NOT doing a good job in the story compartment.
Compare the JRPGs of the past to the one of the recent age.
We had mouthy evil trees in Final Fantasy V and now we have annoying gits like Snow in XIII.

I don't think I've lost interest in RPGs either. I still find myself poking around Disgaea , Tales , Persona and some other RPG titles for one.

Either way , improvements have to be made if a title has to go on. There will always people who would yap about it but sometimes it isn't without of logic.
Parasite Eve ( RPG ) has turned into an action shooter so you could imagine how pissed off the older audiences are.
But if the change is within that genre's field - any beneficial changes is acceptable.
Well , unless it's an experimental release like DW Strikeforce or Dissidia anyways.

    Look at...say... games like MTGS.
It isn't an RPG but it's fair enough of a comparison.
The first Solid installment have all the fundamental controls of the other MTGS installments - but by MTGS 3 , there were some major additional features to the game but it did not affect the overall structure which was brought forth by the original MTGS game.

THAT is the improvement that the fans needs. Not some plastic surgery which could turn a Turn Based RPG into a 3D shooter.
That said , Final Fantasy XIII actually did well with the improvements in the game's structure - even though they did screw up with the storyline.
